Institute of Biomedicine

Research
Our research ranges from analysis of the cell's smallest components to the development of clinical methodology in close interaction with healthcare. The breadth of research is a strength that makes discoveries from basic cell biological research easier to give rise to improved treatment and diagnostics in healthcare.

Teaching
The span is also reflected in our teaching in the pharmacy program, the medical program, the dental program, the nursing program and the biomedical analyst program, where the department has program responsibility for the latter. We teach subjects such as molecular cell biology, clinical chemistry, genetics, pathology, anatomy, histology, microbiology and infectious diseases.

Postgraduate education
In connection with the department's research groups, doctoral education is conducted in a stimulating environment with doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows from Sweden and many other countries. This and our research groups' extensive collaboration with colleagues around the world make the department an international workplace.

Organisation
The Institute of Biomedicine is organised into four departments with different subject specializations: laboratory medicine, microbiology and immunology, infectious diseases and medical chemistry and cell biology. There is an administrative unit that provides support for the institute's activities.

Centers
There are also three center formations linked to the Institute of Biomedicine: Sahlgrenska Center for Cancer Research, Centre for Antibiotic Resistance Research (CARe) and Lederhausen's Center for Cystic Fibrosis Research.
