Viral infection of the central nervous system (CNS) is a serious condition with high mortality, and neurological deficits are common in survivors. The aim of our work is to increase understanding of virulence factors responsible for viral invasion and spread in the CNS and to develop novel antiviral therapies. We also have a deep interest in viral genetics and evolution. The project has a translational approach including experimental and molecular virology, and clinical studies in collaboration with the Infectious Disease Clinic.
