Neuromuscular disorders

Contact information | List of publications

Neuromuscular diseases constitute a group of inherited or acquired disorders where the primary defect is located in either the motor neuron, the neuromuscular transmission or in the muscle itself. The diseases, which lead to muscle weakness and physical handicap of afflicted individuals, have a prevalence of approximately 1/1000.

Our group constitutes part of a network "The Göteborg Neuromuscular Center", which is involved in diagnostic work, treatment, rehabilitation and research of neuromuscular diseases. In addition to the diagnostic work, our group is focused on research on basic mechanisms of muscle diseases and development of new diagnostic tools based on muscle biopsy. The research involves mainly two different groups of neuromuscular diseases: inflammatory myopathies and mitochondrial disorders.
