Transmission of microbes and antibiotic resistance - Autumn 2019

You will gain a basic understanding of the spread of infectious microbes – through contact, sex, blood, air or through water and food. You will also learn about the structure and functions of microbes, their pathogenicity and interaction with the immune system. Antimicrobial drugs, development and spread of resistance, as well as modes to combat such resistance, will be covered. You will acquire a basic understanding of techniques for disinfection and sterilization as well as other measures applied in the different Nordic countries aiming at preventing the spread of infectious microbes.

The course will start on September 9 2019. During the following weeks the course will take place in Gothenburg:

2019-09-09 -- 2019-09-13 (week 37)
2019-10-07 -- 2019-10-11 (week 41)
2019-11-04 -- 2019-11-08 (week 45)
2019-12-02 -- 2019-12-06 (week 49)


  • You may apply for this course if you are a nordic health care professional, e.g. doctor, nurse, dentist or biomedical laboratory technician, and have at least two years of working experience. Note that a prerequisite is that the employer is willing to pay the course fee
  • You also need the following language skills: In Sweden - English B/English 6, Swedish B/Svenska 3, other Nordic countries: equivalent level
  • If you which to attend this course and receive 15 credits for it, you need to have a preveious Bachelor's degree or equivalent in biology, nursing, dentistry, medicine, biomedical laboratory science, veterinary medicine
